Boerdereij de Weelde is a biodynamic soft fruit farm in the heart of the Betuwe, a region in the Netherlands known for its fertile soils and fruit-growing tradition. The farm grows a rich variety of soft fruits, including blackberries, raspberries, red currants, and gooseberries, all cultivated with care and in harmony with nature. Led by Willemienv Brouwer, De Weelde, formerly known as Fruitweelde, has long focused on sustainable, biodiverse farming and values the role of volunteers as an integral part of this vision, inviting people to join in the daily work and learn through hands-on experience in a welcoming, community-driven environment.
Recently, a new chapter has begun with the addition of a vegetable garden, lovingly tended by Donna Donkers. This season marks the launch of their very first vegetable subscription, offering fresh, seasonal produce directly to the local community.
I was invited to documented both the first harvest of the season and the early stages of growth, like seeding beans in the vegetable garden, capturing the rhythm of the farm from soil to basket.
